Working At Telephone Booth to launching Firangi Under K9 Productions, Kapil Sharma’s Life Journey is Inspirational
Comedian turned actor Kapil Sharma is busy promoting his upcoming film ‘Firangi’ which is scheduled for a release on 24 November. The film will be launched under the banner of his home production ‘K9 Films’. The fans are really looking forward to the film as it is a historical period drama set in the backdrop of 1920s.
Kapil Sharma has become a household name in recent years. However, the stardom he has got wasn’t earned overnight. The star has worked really hard for the love he is getting from his fans. Behind the hit comedy shows, and films were years of hard work and an extremely inspirational story.
The ace comedian hails from Amritsar, Punjab. His father worked as a head constable while his mother was a homemaker. In 1997, during his last year in college, his world turned upside down when his father was diagnosed with cancer. His father passed away in 2004 which dragged the family into emotional and financial crisis.
Kapil’s first job was at a telephone booth when he was in 10th standard. Taking up this job was a necessity in order to manage his expenses, and to provide support to the family. He even used to perform in Night Jagratas. During college, he started acting in theatres, but he didn’t have enough money to pay the fees. Slowly, and steady, his work started getting recognised from several colleges, who wanted him to represent them in youth festivals and offered to sponsor his education.
With his study being sponsored, he took up Commercial Art. In an interview with Times of India, he said, “I learnt nothing about either Commercial Art or Computer Science. My father had got very unwell at that time and I requested my principal if I could teach theatre to earn money. That’s when I learnt a lot as a teacher, as you learn a lot from students while teaching. I used to do histrionics and everyone would love it, so I somehow wanted to just get into the ‘Laughter Challenge’.”
Kapil was focused that he wants to get through ‘Laughter Challenge.’ He left no stone unturned and started looking out for auditions. He initially tried his luck in the auditions held in Amritsar but got rejected. However, he didn’t lose hope and went to Delhi to try for the second time. Luckily, he got selected and rest is the history. He emerged as a winner of the ‘Laughter Challenge’ in the year 2007.
And since then, he never looked back. He knew that it was just a beginning and he has a long journey ahead to travel. He went on to participate in ‘Comedy Circus’. And then, he took the biggest risk of his life. But as they say, ‘More risk, more gain’. He decided to invest all his money in creating his own production house ‘K9 Productions’. In collaboration with Colors Channel, he launched a show titled ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’. The show garnered him with fame and everything else a person could wish for. From Shahrukh Khan to Amitabh Bachchan, almost all the B’town biggies were happy to mark their presence on his show. Kapil was a household name by now. From an 8-year-old child to a 60-year-old person, everybody would stick to their TV sharp at 9 pm to watch him perform.
Regarding this, Kapil once said in an interview, “This humour has worked so well as, in this show, we have tried to cater to every viewer, no matter which age group they belong to. We have stayed away from cheap comedy which assures the entire family that they can sit together and watch this show. Also, the jokes that we crack are related to the common people and therefore, resonate with many.”
Ups and downs are a part of life. Kapil’s life too has been no less than a roller-coaster ride. When everything was just going perfect, the sets of his show caught fire. However, he rebuilt a much beautiful set. He then faced another setback and his show came to an end due to differences with Colors channel.
But he came back with a bang with a show titled ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ on Sony Channel. The team is currently on a break, and they have promised to come back again. Till then, Kapil Sharma would be treating his fans with his upcoming film ‘Firangi’. He has dared to step out of the box by doing a high-on content film instead of comedy genre movie.
We are really looking forward to his film to hit the screens on 24 November.
