Beauty or good looking is one great gift for anyone who are blessed with. It is one thing that is not given to everybody, but desired by almost every human being. Yes, it feels good to be beautiful or handsome, but actually it has very little to do with in other aspects of life. Beauty or appearance is not everything.
However, in film industry, especially Bollywood, it seems like beauty or good looks is everything, even if no more now at least in the past. It has usually remained prejudiced towards the not so good looking ones. Many aspiring actors had to face several rejections, many must have gone forever without getting any role because of it, in the initial stage all because they don’t have ‘that looks’. However, the industry is changing with time, and they are now more inclined towards talent over looks. But since that perception still exist, as an attempt to change people’s perception, today we take a look at those Bollywood celebrities who were once rejected because of their looks.
1. Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan had gone through a lot of unfortunate times in his career. At one point of time he was so broken that he submerged into debt and bankrupt. However, his self-confidence and belief in himself didn’t let him down and he made a blockbuster entry into Bollywood. He was rejected by filmmakers citing his tall stature as the sole reason for his rejection. Then he perpetually struggled for 8 long years to get success in the film industry.
2. Govinda
Govind was rejected for looking too boyish. Although, he was not depressed and continued to do work industriously and focused on his career.
3. Shah Rukh Khan
SRK started his career in television before venturing into films. Nobody would have regarded him as a boy with ‘chocolate boy looks’. However, he proved himself and went on to do commercial, blockbuster hits, and now have completed 25 years in the industry. He is now regarded as the ‘Baadshah of Bollywood’.
4. Ajay Devgn
Ajay Devgn was rejected for his eerie looks.
5. Irrfan Khan
Irrfan Khn has given numerous blockbuster movies at the box office. His ingenious acting won him many applauds. However, it is said that he never get a single penny for his work in his earlier movies. It is reportedly said that the producers would tell him that his work does not deserve any pay.
6. Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Nawazuddin Siddiqui was a chemist before he decided to pursue his love for acting. During the early phase of his career, he didn’t succeed in this acting field. However, later, he became one of the most talented actors, working alongside big names in the Bollywood. He has even won the prestigious National Award.
7. Katrina Kaif
Katrina Kaif is one of the most beautiful female actors in Bollywood. However, she was also rejected for her looks. She was rejected in her initial stage in the industry for being too foreign looking.
8. Ranveer Singh
With that looks, who would have thought that Ranveer Singh would face rejection! Ranveer was known for his ‘north Indian’ look, in the earlier stage. However, he proved himself by playing unforgettable roles.
9. Konkona Sen Sharma
Konkona Sen Sharma was initially rejected for her dusky looks. But she turned a blind eye towards the criticism and went on to do unconventional roles, proving how talented she is!
10. Arjun Kapoor
Arjun Kapoor has also faced many rejections for being ‘too fat’ to act in Bollywood industry.
11. Anushka Sharma
Anushka Sharma was criticized for being too plain-looking. Look, now she is one of the leading actresses in Bollywood today. Not only that, she also got married to one of the most popular and successful cricketers in the world.
12. Dhanush
Dhanush was told by producers that he was not at all good-looking to be acting in movies. No wonder, according to many he may not be that good-looking, but he is one of the multi-talented personality in film industry. He is a producer, director, writer, lyricist, screenwriter, and a playback singer.
Even today, there are situations and certain people, especially female actors, who are rejected or stopped getting work once they are married because the industry is like ‘ah they’re married now’ and ‘they are no longer beautiful’. We need to change this perception.
