The latest pics that got leaked on the web from the sets Kangana Ranaut’s grand period drama – Manikarnika showcases Sonu Sood in the avatar of a Maratha warrior.
Helmed by Krish, the multi-talented star, who will be seen donning a crucial character in the movie, looks elegant in the regal avatar in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.
Reports hinted that the film will also feature TV actress Ankita Lokhande playing the role of a Maratha soldier Jhalkarbai whilst Sonu is playing the character of Sadashiv.

But, there has been no official proof regarding the same.
Talking about his character in the film, Sonu had earlier stated in a press statement, “It’s challenging to play a real-life character because you know that it existed in the history and you have certain parameters to follow and stay within. I’m sure when you’re working with a brilliant director like Krish, a huge ensemble and a brilliant technical team, there is no way to go wrong. So we are all on our toes to give our best.”
The movie confronted some opposition earlier in the month of February when a group Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha from the state of Rajasthan suspected that the movie has a romantic scene between Rani Lakshmibai and a British East India company agent.
Responding to the complaints, Kangana had stated, “It is very lowly (neech baat) to even think like that about Rani Laxmibai. We cannot even think like that, the kind of things they are saying. What they are saying is actually defaming. There is nothing like that. It is idle talk and I don’t know why it is being said.”

Kangana is donning the main character of Rani Lakshmibai and Atul Kulkarni will be witnessed as Tatya Tope.
In addition, the actor has acted in a couple of movies based on olden times including Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar in which he donned the role of Rajkumar Sujamal and Shaheed Bhagat Singh in which he was seen playing the role of Bhagat Singh.
Manikarnika, the film which is still in the making has a number of great artists on board. Bengali megastar Jisshu Sengupta, who was witnessed in Deepika Padukone starrer Piku, will don the role of Gangadhar Rao in the period movie.
The film is mutually produced by Zee Studios, Kamal Jain, and Nishant Pitti.
