13 Actors Who Didn’t Charge Any Money For Their Iconic Roles

Bollywood superstars usually demand a fortune for signing their films. Their demands are usually not unreasonable as they put their heart and souls into the project for months. But you will be surprised to know that these 13 Bollywood actors didn’t charge a single penny for portraying these iconic roles.

Amitabh Bachchan: 

Amitabh’s brilliant portrayal of a strict teacher in highly acclaimed ‘Black’ which released twelve years ago, earned him huge praises from the critics. Some even went on to say that was the best performance by the actor in his whole career. In a blog dedicated to the film, Amitabh said that he hadn’t charged anything for doing this film. He was a fan of the director Sanjay’s previous works and when he was offered the role he didn’t think about remuneration.

Rani Mukherjee: 

Rani Mukherjee did the famous cameo in Karan Johar’s super hit movie ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ for free.The movie released back in 2001. Karan and Rani have always been very close friends and Rani did several brief appearances in his films without charging anything. Her role in the movie as Shah Rukh’s childhood friend was praised.

Katrina Kaif: 

The gorgeous Bollywood diva danced to the raunchy item number ‘Chikni Chameli’ for the movie Agneepath for fee. The movie went on to become a blockbuster and she was applauded for her sleek dancing moves in the film. The producer of the film, Karan Johar overwhelmed by her grace compensated her by gifting a Ferrari.

Sonakshi Sinha: 

Next in line to join the list of free appearances is actress Sonakshi Sinha. She performed for a song in Akshay Kumar’s film as a friendly gesture to him. She had previously done five films with the superstar so this comes as no surprise.

Shahid Kapoor:

Shahid always had the potential to become a brilliant actor but the films he signed in the beginning of his career didn’t do justice to his talent. Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider really brought the actor in him out for the whole world to see. He didn’t charge anything for the role. His portrayal of the complex role was praised by everyone. This film gave his career a new dimension.

Salman Khan: 

Despite being the highest paid actor in Bollywood, Salman has appeared in many cameos for his friends in the film industry. The list includes films like Om Shanti Om, Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, Son of Sardar and Tees Maar Khan.

Amir Khan: 

The highly acclaimed Bollywood superstar Amir only does films which he thinks are worth being made. He seeks critical acclaim more than money. Hence he did PK for free. His philosophy is that if he does a great job people will come in and pay to watch him. He demanded 33% shares in the profit of the film which grossed 700 crores in the box office.

Deepika Padukone: 

Deepika Padukone become the heartthrob of the whole nation with her role in her debut film Om Shanti Om as Shah Rukh Khan’s heroine. Interesting fact is she did the role for free as she considered getting the veteran actor as her co-actor was an honour.

Priyanka Chopra:

Like Deepika, Priyanka too worked in an item number in Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Billu’ for free. She did it because of her fondness for the Bollywood megastar.

Aishwariya Rai:

Aishwariya Rai is considered one of the most beautiful women in the world but no one can underestimate her acting skills. The actress has been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2009. She also won two Filmfare awards. Interestingly the actress didn’t charge anything for her comeback film Jazbaa. Her performance in the film was praised by the critics.

Sonam Kapoor:

This is a very unique story. Sonam was so confident in the script of Farhan Akhtar’s Milkha Singh biopic ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ that she charged only 11 rupees for her cameo. Her brief performance in the film was liked by everyone.

Kareena Kapoor Khan:

Kareena has also performed free as a token of appreciation towards the Khans. She refused to take any money for her item number in Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Billu’. Similarly she didn’t charge anything for Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg 2’ where she performed in the super hit song ‘Fevicol Se’.

Shah Rukh Khan:

The king Khan is known for his big heart. He did his role in ‘Bhoothnath Returns’ for free as he appeared in the prequel of the film. He also did an item number for free in the movie ‘Krazzy 4’ without charging money which released in 2008.
