Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmavati’ received much appreciation after the first look of actors were unveiled and the trailer was launched. However, BJP is quite unhappy with this film. After demanding a special screening of the film, they are now demanding a ban on the film.
BJP MLA T Raja Singh said that all the theatres in Telangana, who would dare to play Padmavati would be burned to ashes. He expressed this via a comment on a Facebook post. He says that the film is demeaning to the Rajput culture.
Even an MP from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh has also stepped into the debate asking for a ban on the film. He wrote a big Facebook post for the same, and also requested people not to watch or support this film.
In his post, he wrote, “I am calling for a ban on the film. I also request my well-wishers to not watch this film. Making a film in greed of money and playing with the history and facts is wrong and unacceptable. Idol of all ladies-Rani Padmavati is our pride. In order to save her pride, and that of her society, she along with thousand other women willingly gave up her life by jumping into the fire. Manipulating the facts and history is a disgrace to our nation. People like Bhansali don’t understand any language unless they are thrashed. (Bhansali jaise logo ko koi aur bhasha smjh nhi aati. In logo ko sirf jooton ki bhasha smjh aati hai). We can’t tolerate any manipulation to our glorious history. Bhansali has made a film on the manipulated facts written by ministers of Alauddin Khilji. It’s not only wrong but unacceptable. The ladies of these filmmakers change their husbands now and then. How would these people understand the meaning of Jauhar. “
Here’s his facebook post:
With such opposition, it is now getting difficult for the film to get released. The film is slated for release on Dec 1.
