He became a household name after winning the bronze in 2008 Beijing Olympics. He started to wrestle at the age of 14. Sushil Kumar Solanki, born on 26th May 1983, is an Indian wrestler who was born in a small village of Najafgarh in Delhi and now he has become a famous name amongst Indians.

Starting his career at the age of 14, Sushil was always interested in becoming the wrestler. He was inspired by his cousin and his father to become the wrestler that he is today. He was provided with all the facilities by his family in order to make sure that he succeeds as a wrestler.

Sushil started off as a prominent wrestler in the junior level and went on to winning gold in the Asian Junior Wrestling. But, he got the fame to his name after winning the bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics and became one of India’s best wrestlers.

Making a long way from the dusty roads of Najafgarh, Sushil Kumar led the Indian contingent in the 2012 London Olympics. At the age of 15, he won a gold medal in World Cadet Games. He has won major medals in all the competitions that he participated in. He went on to be the Flag bearers for Indian in the 2012 London Olympics. Also, Sushil is the first Indian wrestler to be honoured by the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratan.

Since the wrestler turns 35 today, here are some of the unknown facts and insight of his life:
At the age of 18, he won Haryana state championship.
Even after being financially weak, his family used to send him tins of ghee, cans of milk and cooked vegetables when he was staying and practising in the Chhatrasal Stadium.
He is a gentleman and we know this because, in the year 2012, he refused to appear in a surrogate ad for a liquor brand believing that it would send out a wrong message to the youth and audience.
He started wrestling at the age of 14. His father was a wrestler too but also a D. T. C. Bus driver
Sushil Kumar is currently employed at the Indian Railway as an Assistant Commercial Manager.
He is the first person to get two Olympic medals for the Independent India.
Even after being a wrestler, Sushil does not eats non-vegetarian food and has also campaigns for PETA’s go veteratian campaign.
He has won two bronze, one silver and one gold in the Asian Championship; 5 gold in the Commonwealth Championship and including Delhi Commonwealth game and lastly, one bronze and one silver in the Olympics.  
His cousins gave up on wrestling so that Sushil could train as a wrestler.
In Commonwealth 2010, he beat an opinion in only 9 seconds.
