China is considered to be an economic superpower and people are often considered as hard working. The companies in China follow “Confucian work ethic,” which demands perfection in work and respect for the elderly. Chinese people are very keen to change their social status with many dreaming to earn more money in realistic way possible. Therefore, it is not uncommon to see Chinese people willing to give up weekends to do more work. For instance, if Chinese people work during national holidays, they would be getting three times higher salary than normal times.
Chinese workers also follow chi ku (literally “eating bitterness”) which means the act of persisting through hardship. Chinese believe that Chi ku could earn them respect — and possibly a promotion.
However, imagine what would have happened when Chinese workers couldn’t meet their annual targets?
Recently, workers from a Chinese company were forced to crawl on the street as they failed to achieve their annual targets.
In a shocking video, that is now viral, pedestrians in Tengzhou, county-level city of Zaozhuang in Shandong province, were shocked to see employees moving forward on their hands and knees.

As per a report by btime.com, most of the crawling workers were females and they are part of a company which sells beauty products. In the video, a male supervisor was seen holding a large flag that bore the name of the firm. Two other workers also walked alongside the group and filmed the extreme punishment.
After being informed the group’s behaviour, police arrived at the scene and asked the team to stop the punishment.
Such behaviour is nothing new in China as an earlier report showed workers being slapped and made to crawl around on all fours like dogs during a company appraisal meeting over their poor performance.

Surely, such type of punishment is absurd and humiliating. Failing to meet your goals does not mean that employees should be subjected to being paraded through the streets like animals. Imagine a company doing this here in India?
