Ivan Ayr’s Directorial Venture Soni Is Receiving Rave Reviews On Twitter. Here’s Why You Should Watch It

Ivan Ayr’s directorial venture Soni is receiving rave reviews on Twitter. Soni, which was premiered on Netflix India, is a crime drama starring Geetika Vidya Ohlyan and Saloni Batra. When first premiered in the Orrizonti (Horizons) section of the 75th Venice International Film Festival, the movie received a standing ovation. The movie has also won the Facebook Award for Best ‘Work-In-Progress’ project.
It is about the story of a young policewoman named Soni (Geetika Vidya Ohlyan) and her superintendent Kalpana (Saloni Batra), dealing with the growing violent crimes against women in Delhi. The movie chronicles the lives of two Indian women working at the same police department and coming to terms with gendered imbalances, violence and sexual harassment.

The movie shows how these two cops (both are part of special decoy operation) take up the daily challenges as they perform their high-pressure official duties to make the city safer for women. Ivan Ayr’s and Kislye’s script is marvelous as it explores the personal and professional lives of the cops, their ways of dealing with things, and their mutual camaraderie.

The nuanced performances delivered by both Geetika and Saloni keep up with Ivan’s sensitive writing. To sum up, Soni is all about the power imbalance intrinsic in our society.

Just saw this movie. Blown away. It's like just plain truth served to you and it scares you about the society you live in but at same time characters like Soni and Kalpana gives you hope. @GeetikaVidya @salonibatra_29 ❤️

I need some more time to process it but Soni is the best Hindi film streaming on Netflix right now.

It was not an easy watch for me being a woman raised in Delhi but I think it was essential. There isn’t a better movie on the lived experience of Indian woman I’ve ever seen.

Watched - This is movie making at it's best. A gritty story about two lady cops in North India. Watch it on Netflix now. Surprised that @NetflixIndia hasn't promoted this. I got to know through @anuragkashyap72 ' tweets.

India needed a movie like Soni. The world needs Soni. Fuck Sacred Games with the good cops and "bad guys", everybody is as good and as bad as they get but it's time you stop telling women to take it and stay down.

This film is not 'Ardh Satya' nor 'Taxi driver'. It's not that gripping...

The sound design of this movie fails sometime.

The dialogues are like metaphor to understand the context. In real life, one doesn't talk like that..

Can't say much about acting, 3.75/5.00
