15 Interesting Facts About Royal Enfield Or ‘Bullet’ You Probably Didn’t Know

So what makes Royal Enfield “Royal”? Called ‘Bullet’ across the length and breadth of the country, Royal Enfield continues to churn out bikes that have encapsulated themselves to a legendary status. Yes, we have heard, many must have used them as well, so much about the brand, its design and what not, but I feel we didn’t read or know much about it. So, take a read some interesting facts about that BULLET.

1. Royal Enfield is the oldest running motorcycle brand in the world still in production.


2. It was the first company in India to provide rear disc brake in a two wheeler.


3. In 1965, the Indian government chose Bullet as the most suitable motorcycle for patrolling the country’s border.

The government ordered 800 350-cc model Bullets.

4. Indian Army still has thousands of Royal Enfield motorcycles in the service for the troops based in North, and North-west borders and other cantonments.


5. In 2001, the company sold about 25,000 bikes annually. Today, it sells more than 30,000 bikes in a month.


6. It used to make 650cc, 700cc bikes in India in the 1970s but stopped due to no demand.


7. In 1990, Enfield India produced a diesel motorcycle called ‘Taurus’, which unfortunately was not a commercial success for the company and they stopped producing them in 2002.

However, the bikes have gone to achieve cult popularity and are now a big hit with collectors.

8. The original Royal Enfield logo featured a cannon, with the slogan “Made like a gun, goes like a bullet”.


9. In 1984, Enfield India began exporting their own Enfield Bullet motorcycles back to the UK.


 

10. UK and India RE combined, the Bullet model has been in continuous production since 1948.

This is probably the longest continuation of a motorcycle model in the world.

11. Royal Enfield exports its motorcycles to 42 countries around the world, including the US, Japan and Germany.


12. It surpassed Harley-Davidson in global sales in 2015.


13. Royal Enfield motorcycles received an acknowledgment from US President Barack Obama during the 2015 Republic Day parade.


14. In 2015, Royal Enfield Motors announced its North American headquarters and a dealership in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The dealership will be Royal Enfield’s first company-owned store in the U.S.

15. Royal Enfield added new variants of the Classic 350 and 500 motorcycles in 2017.

While the Royal Enfield Classic 350 gets Gun Grey as a new color option, the Classic 500 will now come in Stealth Black color.
