Lamborghini: The Rise Of Super Car Giant From An Insult By Ferrari
Legendary men have legendary conversations and sometimes their conversations can change the world. One such conversation was between Lamborghini and Ferrari. The stunning cars of Lamborghini have an amazing story of origin. The rise of Lamborghini is an insult.
Ferruccio Lamborghini was originally a farmer who made tractors. He was the successful businessman too and was quite rich in Italy. He owned a Ferrari 250 GT but was not happy with the service. Having some mechanical skills, he observed that his Ferrari had the same clutch as used in one of his tractors.
He decided to give his car to Ferrari workplace for service of clutches. But the officials took the car to repair and never allowed him to see what work they did on the car. His problems were never solved.
Once Ferruccio had said, “All my Ferraris had clutch problems. When you drove normally, everything was fine. But when you were going hard, the clutch would slip under acceleration; it just wasn’t up to the job.”
So Ferruccio decided to talk to Enzo Ferrari for which he had to wait for him a very long time.
‘Ferrari, your cars are rubbish!’ Lamborghini complained. Il Commendatore was furious. “The problem is not with the car but with the driver!” Ferrari said. “Lamborghini, you may be able to drive a tractor but you will never be able to handle a Ferrari Properly,’ he added. This was the point when he finally decided to make a perfect car – Lamborghini.
Lamborghini took his insult as an open challenge. Lamborghini decided to build his own car with a V12 engine and founded an auto factory in the small town of Sant; Agata. Lamborghini hired Ferrari’s ex-employees Giotto Bizzarini, Franco Scaglione, and Gian Paolo Dallara to make the car.
Lamborghini became a brand in no time. He once laughingly told an Italian reporter, “I am the first Japanese in Italian history: I never invented anything, but I always copied the best. To make my motor I asked, which is the best? And the response was, the 12-cylinder of Ferrari. However, to improve it I needed to change the head. So then I asked, which heads are the most efficient? The answer: the twin cams on the 4-cylinder Alfa Romeo. So it was enough for me to put together these concepts to make the most beautiful motor in the world.”
Today Lamborghini is among top sports car producers in the world. Having a Lamborghini is a luxury status symbol in the world.
