Do You Know The Ideology of Our Constitution Has Taken Inspiration From These World Constitutions?

The nation will be celebrating its 70th Republic Day this year. On this day, we celebrate the formulation of the Constitution of India. But do you know the history behind the same? How did it all happen, and what all inspired the Constitution?  It is because of this Constitution that we have laws to safeguard the rights of the citizens. Did you know that our Constitution is inspired by constitutions of other nations? Nations like Germany, Ireland, USA and many others have helped us form our Constitution.
Dr BR Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution, said that there is nothing wrong in borrowing and nobody has the right on the ideas of the Constitution. We have our own Constitution which is inspired by the Constitution of the great Britain. But, there is more to it. Read below to know more!

The parliamentary system that we follow in India is inspired by the British system. In the UK they follow dual citizenship while India changed it to single citizenship.

We also took the federal rights from the US, which gave more power to the state. Our preamble that says ‘We the people’ comes from the US Constitution.




The India Constitution borrowed the Directive Principles of State Policy.


The idea of equality, liberty, fraternity surfaced during the French Revolution and these popular ideas were also adopted by Indian Constitution contributors.


We all know about the Emergency powers which lies in the hands of the President of India. The idea of Emergency powers was taken from Germany. In Germany, the Emergency powers vested with the President of German Republic as per Article 48 of Weimer Constitution of Germany.
